Finding Forrester
In the Bronx, sixteen-year-old Jamal Wallace makes light of his potential as a talented understudy, wanting to play b-ball with his companions. They are viewed by William Forrester, a loner who never leaves his loft and has become an area metropolitan legend. Tried by his companions, Jamal sneaks into the condo, however is shocked by Forrester and escapes, abandoning his rucksack. Forrester later drops the rucksack onto the road, having altered Jamal's own works. Jamal solicits him to peruse more from his composition, however Forrester irately advises him regardless 5,000 words on why he should "avoid my home." Jamal does as such, leaving the exposition close to home, and is welcomed inside.

Jamal discovers that Forrester is the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer of a popular novel, Avalon Landing, yet never distributed another book. Forrester consents to assist Jamal with his composition as long as he doesn't get some information about Forrester's life or enlighten anybody regarding him. They bond as Forrester gives Jamal his own work to rework, depending on the prerequisite that their composing never leaves the condo. Jamal's composing improves, driving one of his teachers, Robert Crawford, to associate him with literary theft.
Jamal becomes a close acquaintence with his cohort Claire and dominates on the ball court, yet is estranged from his old companions.
